Felted handbag with shoulder strap

I am delighted to announce Creative Fibre Waikato have invited me to teach at their November retreat at MiCamp in Taupo. This is going to be so much fun! Join us to learn wet-felting techniques while you make a seamless, felted bag with integrated shoulder strap and flap with a magnetic clasp. I will show you how to lay out wool over a resist, blend wool colours to achieve a gradual colour change and add an internal pocket (optional) to your bag.

Learn how to:

  • use resists to create hollow, 3D shapes
  • add a magnetic clasp
  • add a flap to your bag
  • make and permanently join a shoulder strap
  • work the felt so the bag has a flat bottom and the felt is stiff enough to stand up on its own without the need for chemical stiffeners

This class is free to attendees of the Creative Fibre MiCamp retreat but places will be limited so please don’t delay in signing up. There will be a small fee to cover the cost of materials.

This class is suitable for beginner and intermediate felt-makers.

When: 15th – 18th November 2024

Where: MiCamp, 100 Rawhira Road, Waitetoko, Lake Taupo

Price: class is included in retreat registration fee (sign up early to avoid disappointment as class size will be strictly limited and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis)

I will contact everyone who signs up to this class with a materials list but please also bring:

  • one small towel (tea towel or hand towel size), and a larger towel approx 1 metre long
  • a small to medium sized pair of sharp scissors, ideally with pointy tips.
  • a plastic bag or bin liner to take your damp felt and wet towels home in
  • pencil and paper if you like to take notes
